Thirty years ago today, Steven Spielberg unleashed his schmaltz upon us in extra-terrestrial form,<\/a> complete with marketable candy-coated goodness.<\/a><\/p>\n

I hate to break this to you, denizens, but I’ve never liked this movie. It’s riddled with forced sentimentality as only Spielberg can inflict upon audiences. But I couldn’t resist this idea when it popped into my head. My only hope is that someone out there gets my weird sense of humor (it actually does make sense if you know a little movie trivia!), and that they laugh even a fraction as much as I’m still laughing.<\/p>\n
